Three healthcare champions were recognized for their outstanding contributions to care diversity, equity, and inclusion.
BOSTON, MA (October 26, 2021)—At this week’s annual ACEP Executive Leadership Diversity Summit, the contributions of three clinical leaders were celebrated and recognized with the Dr. Wes Curry Emergency Medicine Diversity Leadership honor. This annual award recognizes innovation, collaboration, and culture building by diverse healthcare leaders.
Since 2012, Vituity, a physician-led and-owned multispecialty partnership, has hosted the Executive Leadership Diversity Summit at the ACEP Scientific Assembly. Created by Wesley Curry, MD, FACEP, and Savoy Brummer, MD, FACEP, the Summit provides a networking opportunity to celebrate the growing diversity in the field of emergency medicine.
Listed below are the 2021 recipients, and the specific honors they received:

“Vituity is proud to acknowledge the significant contributions of these three healthcare heroes”, said Savoy Brummer, MD, FACEP. “Throughout their medical careers, they have distinguished themselves as champions for leadership diversity and have had a direct impact on the lives and livelihoods of the patients they serve”.
Dr. Ezenkwele and Dr. Smith were recognized for their contributions to the formation of an enterprise resource group committed to increasing representation and visibility of Black and African American clinicians and employees. They were also acknowledged as being mentors and active participants with the Vituity Cares Foundation, a group of volunteer medical professionals dedicated to ensuring a more equitable future globally. Dr. Brown was celebrated for spearheading the integration of health equity and social justice content into the medical curriculum at Stanford School of Medicine, and for his consulting work helping organizations develop policies and practices in alignment with DEI and social justice.
