[Emeryville, CA] - April 6, 2026 - The Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM), in partnership with Vituity, is proud to announce that Sean Williams is the recipient of the 2026 Hospital Medicine Scholarship Fund. The award includes a $25,000 medical education scholarship to support Williams’ continued training and commitment to advancing patient-centered care.
Williams is an incoming fourth-year medical student from Detroit, Michigan, with a strong interest in internal medicine, particularly the management of complex physiology and diagnostic uncertainty in the inpatient setting. His academic interests also include cardiac rehabilitation and exercise physiology, and he holds a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
“Internal medicine challenges you to navigate complexity while keeping the patient’s full story at the center of every decision,” said Williams. “This scholarship is an incredible honor and will help me continue pursuing a career focused on thoughtful, equitable care for patients, particularly in the inpatient setting.”
Throughout medical school, Williams has demonstrated a deep commitment to both academic excellence and community engagement. He has served as a science instructor and as a liaison to a community-based wellness initiative in his hometown, helping to expand access to health education and preventive care resources. During his clinical training, he earned Honors in both Internal Medicine and Surgery and was recognized with the Black Medical Association Endowed Student Award and the Gold-Level PEARLS Professionalism Recognition.
The Hospital Medicine Scholarship Fund, made possible through Vituity’s keystone sponsorship, is designed to support medical students who have demonstrated academic achievement and a commitment to health equity and improving care for underserved communities.
“Sean exemplifies the qualities this scholarship was created to recognize, including intellectual curiosity, clinical excellence, and a meaningful commitment to community,” said Jenna Goldstein, Chief of Staff at SHM. “We are excited to support him as he continues his journey.”
“From his work in community wellness to his clinical accomplishments, Sean represents the kind of future physician leader this scholarship aims to support. We’re proud to be part of his journey and the impact he will make in hospital medicine,” said Javay Walton, Vice President of Community Impact at Vituity.
The scholarship was presented at SHM Converge 2026, SHM’s annual conference in Nashville, TN, on Tuesday, March 31st, 2026. To learn more about the Hospital Medicine Scholarship Fund, visit https://www.hospitalmedicine.org/membership/member-awards/shms-hospital-medicine-scholarship-fund/.
